Admission Criteria
It would be insensitive and unrealistic to state our terms of acceptance, but we do take the following points into account;
Breach House is not a nursing home, and this therefore means there are limits to the care that we can provide under the terms of our registration. We welcome our frailer and more dependent clients where we have the resources, skills and facilities to meet their individual needs. It is impossible to generalise, and so each potential client is assessed individually, as per our 'Admissions policy and procedure'.
We are able to care for those residents with a visual/hearing impairment, mobility problems, and a small degree of memory loss/mild confusion or for those who are simply finding it difficult to cope in their own home.
At the time of moving into Breach House, we would ask for the prospective client to be able to stand with minimal assistance and be capable of walking a short distance. Often to use the appropriate aids can improve an individual's abilities and this is always considered.
A degree of memory loss is common and sadly all to often a large factor in experiencing difficulty in continuing to live alone. We feel able to care for those with mild memory loss, with the knowledge that this will gradually become more marked in time, but that a client will be more settled and orientated at Breach House by this time, therefore helping to minimise problems and distress. We are unable to offer care to those who experience a moderate degree of dementia and beyond, or any other forms of mental illness.
Every client wishing to reside here at Breach House is fully assessed by our Care Manager Mrs Julie Head on an individual basis. We also actively encourage our potential clients to join us at Breach House for the day when making their choice of care home, as this then allows them first hand experience of the service we offer here, and also allows us to gain a more thorough knowledge of a potential clients needs - a much stronger basis upon which to make a very important decision for everyone concerned.
